Meet the Team: Andrea Zurawicz

NAKA_Spark_LittleRed_Andrea-Cropped-2Meet the Team is a blog feature that highlights one of Spark Event Management’s talented staff members. This month we talk to one of our senior staff, Andrea Zurawicz about her time at Spark.

1. What is your name and job title?
Andrea Zurawicz, Event Manager

2. How did you land a job with Spark?
Anh and I worked together in Edmonton years ago, where she taught me (almost) everything I know about events. I later moved to Calgary. Spark was a year old and I was looking for something new so we teamed up once again. Simple as that.

3. If you could give advice to entry-level junior event managers, what would it be?

If other event managers are like me, they can be perfectionists in their jobs and work their butts off to ensure that their client’s event is the best yet. This is a great mentality to have, but you can cross all t’s and dot all i’s and not everything is going to work out as planned. Sometimes your sponsor sends a different item than expected for the delegate bags and sometimes you just don’t know exactly how you’re going to hang those string lights at the Jasper Park Lodge. And that is okay! Be prepared for things to change and expect that they will. As long as you are willing to accept that, be a bit flexible and able to think on your feet, and maintain your composure at the event, it always works out in the end.

4. What is the most surprising thing about the event industry?

I didn’t expect to become a “Jane of All Trades”. Working for a small events team means wearing so many different hats beyond what I expected – sales, marketing, technical support, schmoozer, buyer of copious amounts of candy – and those learnings are invaluable. The multitude of skills I have gained from working on events has and will be transferrable to many other aspects in my life.

5. What is something most people don’t know about you?

Easter weekend with my family is my favorite time of year. Very Polish of me, I know.

6. Describe yourself in three words.

Adventurous. Passionate. Dedicated.

7. Describe your work at Spark in one sentence.

Never a dull moment.

8. What does your typical “day in the life” look like?

As my colleagues have already said, no day is ever the same. And that is so true. But for the most part, every morning I go through my emails and answer what I can. Then, a part of each day consists of me ignoring my email and the chatter in the office and focusing on at least one big task at hand. I’m most productive that way. Once I’m done that task, it’s not left nagging at me.

9. What is the single best thing about your job?

I work with fun, passionate, professional, and driven ladies that both teach and learn from one another.

10. What do you want people to know about Spark that they might not know from the website?

Behind the scenes, the Spark team strives to ensure that each event is tailored to the clients’ vision and we are constantly brainstorming new ideas for our events to make our clients stand out as leaders in their field.
