Meet The Team: Erinn Johns

Meet the Team is a blog feature that highlights one of Spark Event Management’s talented staff members. This month we talk to one of our graphic designers, Erinn Johns about her time at Spark.

erinn-150x1. What is your name and job title?

Erinn Johns, Creative Lead

2. Where were you prior to Spark?

Learning Dutch, and perfecting my bike riding skills in the Netherlands.

Before heading abroad for a few years, I was the lead designer and brand manager for a wine and spirits distributor (yup – free samples of some of the worlds best wines!) Working with a team in both Alberta, and BC I managed their brand, maintained digital and print marketing campaigns, created sales team materials, and designed event collateral to name just a few responsibilities. In addition, I also managed various other clients, and worked closely with an agency as a contract designer.

Prior to starting my family, and stepping away from the full time agency setting I was part of the Metro Design Group team for 10 years, where I had the opportunity to  work on a broad range of projects from brand identity, advertising, packing design, brochure and catalogue design, to museum exhibits and large scale outdoor signage.

4. What is the most surprising thing about the event industry?

The endless amount of energy and focus required. This is NOT a 9-5 gig, you’re “on” all the time. I’m used to being more behind the scenes managing the creative end, but I’ve recently had the opportunity to be on-site with the Spark team. Throughout the event I admired how our team seamlessly handled complicated technical requests, ensured all involved were looked after and up to speed, managed the venue and the million small details until the wee hours of the morning, and then get up at 6 am ready for the next day!

5. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I hiccup almost every hour on the hour!

6. If you’re not at work, name three other places we can find you?

Hockey rink, outside(camping, snowboarding, hiking, keeping up with my kids), hockey rink.

7. Describe your work at Spark in one sentence.

Sure, I can get that done!

8. What inspires or influences your creativity in the workplace/life?

Well, there are the usual suspects, like diving into Pinterest and admiring your way through beautiful design posts, or flipping through a few of your favourite design magazines. However, there is nothing better then to throw yourself outside and just let your surroundings inspire you.

A quick walk to the coffee shop, clears the head, lends clarity and…bonus you get back to your desk with a latte in hand ready to go!

9. What is the single best thing about your job?

The incredibly talented Spark Team. Even when the deadlines are tight and we’ve all worked long hours, there’s always time for a good laugh.

10. What do you want people to know about Spark that they might not know from the website?

The dedication that the spark team offers to every event.  No detail is too small, nor is any hour too early or late to ensure the the event is the best it can be.

Tot Ziens!
